About this animal

African pygmy hedgehogs are prickly, snuffly and surprisingly quick once they get going. They are solitary and must be kept alone. The one thing that catches people out is temperature: below about 20 °C they attempt hibernation, which is dangerous for this species, so a thermostat-controlled heat source is essential.
