Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Mostly about how the buying works, since it is not a normal webshop. If your question is not here, just write.

Prices and negotiating

Why is there no price on the listings?

Because a fixed number would be a lie. Two animals of the same species differ in age, colour, temperament and how long they have been waiting for a home. Each listing shows the price class we expect, which is a range, and the final figure is agreed between you and the seller.

How much can I actually negotiate?

A fair offer inside the listed range is usually accepted straight away. Below the range, explain your reasoning. Taking two animals, an older animal, or one that has been listed for a while all create real room. Lowball offers with no explanation tend to get a short reply.

Do I pay a deposit online?

No. Nothing is charged through this website at all, and there is no cart or checkout. Payment happens on handover once you have seen the animal, in cash or by instant bank transfer.

What does 'reserved' mean?

Someone has agreed a price and put a deposit down in person. Reserved animals are held for seven days. It is still worth writing, because reservations occasionally fall through and there are often siblings.

Contacting the seller

Who am I actually writing to?

Lucas, who keeps and breeds these animals. There is no team and no support desk. Every email is answered by the same person, usually within a day or two.

What should I put in my first email?

The reference number of the animal, your offer if you have one in mind, and a couple of lines about your experience and your setup. Photos of your enclosure are very welcome and often speed the whole thing up.

Is there a phone number?

There is, and it is in the footer, but email works better. It gives time to answer care questions properly and leaves you both with a written record of what was agreed.

Do you sell to first-time keepers?

Yes, gladly. Species marked beginner friendly are the ones to look at. Expect questions about your setup before anything is agreed, and expect an honest answer if a species is wrong for you.

Collection and delivery

How do I get the animal home?

Most people collect in person by appointment, which is free and lets you see the parents and the setup. For longer distances we use a courier licensed for live animals, quoted per order. Birds and small mammals are collection only.

Is there an age limit?

Live animals are sold to adults aged 18 and over. Parents buying for a child are very welcome; the adult is the buyer and the contact person.

Can I visit before deciding?

Please do. Visits are by appointment, usually Tuesday to Saturday. Seeing an animal in person is the best way to know whether it suits you, and there is no pressure to decide on the day.

Health and paperwork

What does the health guarantee cover?

Every animal is eating and behaving normally before it is listed. If a vet finds a pre-existing health issue within 14 days of handover, you get a refund or a replacement. Problems caused by an unsuitable setup are not covered, which is why the setup conversation happens first.

Do I need permits or paperwork?

Most species need none. Protected ones such as Hermann's tortoises, lovebirds and sun conures come with the required certificates and closed rings, and some German states require exotic mammals to be registered. Every listing that needs paperwork says so, and you will be talked through it.

Can I bring an animal back?

Live animals are excluded from the usual right of withdrawal for distance purchases, but nobody wants an animal stuck somewhere unsuitable. If your circumstances change, get in touch and a solution will be found.

Why do some animals have to be bought in pairs?

Because keeping them alone is cruel. Budgies, lovebirds, finches, guinea pigs, gerbils, rats, rabbits and sugar gliders are all social animals that suffer in isolation. Those listings say so, and the price covers the pair.
